Riverside Theatres is the premier performing arts venue in Western Sydney. We are the centrepiece of performance culture in Sydney’s central city, Parramatta offering the very best in live arts and entertainment experiences and community events. Well-established and highly respected both by the local community and the national arts industry, Riverside is a successful cultural and community asset of City of Parramatta Council.

By connecting artists with audiences, attracting talent and industry and supporting education and innovation, it contributes to the city’s liveliness, vibrancy and economic activity while facilitating authentic community dialogue and interaction. We aim to involve, entertain, enrich, inspire, delight and intrigue artists and audiences from Parramatta and beyond with live performance, events, festivals and community gatherings.

We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced Commercial and Finance executive to the position of Business Manager – Riverside Theatres.

About the role

The Business Manager supports the Director & leadership team to deliver the strategic objectives of the business unit by ensuring its business and financial operations are viable, sustainable and appropriate for the ongoing needs of the company. The role is responsible for:

  • implementation of the business plan,
  • commercial operations oversight,
  • funding and income generation,
  • partnerships,
  • accounts,
  • reporting, and governance/compliance matters,
  • providing administrative support to the Director & and the Secretarial function for the Riverside Advisory Committee.

We are looking for a highly experienced Finance & Administration executive with significant experience in a leadership role working in a business or arts management role.

The Business Manager will be analytical and a great communicator, have outstanding organisational and planning ability, expertise in financial management, experience with sponsorship and fundraising, an eye for income growth and diversification, and the ability to work in a hands-on capacity with a small staff to create a thriving, creative work environment

This is a temporary full-time position (up until June 2024).

On a daily basis you will:

  • Lead the business, finance and administration team
  • Manage and develop the financial and business operations of Riverside Theatres including income and expenditure control to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with hirers, performing companies, promoters, artists, stakeholders and audiences
  • Undertake effective business development, management and reporting of the annual operations & capital budgets particularly in relation to projects margins and cost effectiveness
  • Contribute to developing, maintaining and promoting Riverside Theatres as a centre of excellence in performing arts, events and exhibitions in Western Sydney region.

About You

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Superior and extensive business expertise and experience, preferably in a performing arts, events, exhibitions or hospitality environment
  • Advanced experience in developing and implementing business, financial and administrative systems, preferably for live performance venues and/or ventures
  • Evidence of management and team leadership of staff in a multi-task environment requiring application of priorities, meeting of deadlines and working under pressure
  • Superior understanding of venue management and business systems

The successful applicant will be degree qualified in accounting or business administration, with preference given to applicants qualified as Certified Practising Accountants or with more than 10 years senior management experience in business and financial management. A degree in Marketing, Business or Theatre Management or extensive relevant experience of, typically, up to 10 years will also be highly regarded. CBayley_Riverside@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au
