Community Disaster Resilience Officer - Contract


Exciting opportunity for a Community Disaster Resilience Officer to join our team.

This new position will build local community disaster resilience by working with Tweed community-based service providers to establish partnerships, strengthen networks, provide support and assist in the development of their business continuity plans. 

The position is within our Corporate Governance Team and will have strong connections with both the Byron Shire Council Community and Cultural Planing Unit and the Tweed Shire Council Community Services Section. The position is required to work with the nominated Recovery Officers to consolidate and strengthen information sharing as part of the Tweed Byron Local Recovery Plan.

You will embed resilience awareness and capacity into the local community context linking emergency management, local government, community services, environment groups, business and local communities and villages.

About the role:

  • Deliver a full established and operational Tweed LGA community resilience network
  • Identify and facilitate relevant training and development opportunities
  • Conduct emergency scenario exercises to test roles and capacity of recovery partners and networks
  • Test local recovery reporting/information gathering processes and evaluate effectiveness
  • Support community initiatives to develop local resilience to emergency events

  • 2 years maximum-term contract with the possibility of extension based on funding, operational requirements and performance

We are seeking:

  • Diploma qualifications in Community Development or relevant area of expertise
  • Sound understanding of the NSW Emergency Management Arrangements
  • Planning and project management experience
  • The ability to analyse problems and formulate solutions based on policies, procedures and relevant legislation

This position is based in Murwillumbah, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
