About the Opportunity

Council has an exciting opportunity to join the Environmental Services team as the Environmental Services Coordinator. This role will assist the Department Leader in coordinating the duties of the various functions in the Environmental team including; Waste Services, Cemeteries, Ranger Services and Weeds Management. This role is full time, based in Molong. 

You will be supervising small teams that service the Cabonne Council area.  Lead by a supportive and proactive management team, you will be provided with support and training in line with Council's values to learn the role and ensure our workers are resilient, adaptive and are able to perform to Council and community expectations.

The position operates over a 38 hour week with a 9 day fortnight, with opportunity for overtime.

An overview of the position's activities and responsibilities is provided below. 

Your main responsibilities will include: 

  • To coordinate and communicate regularly with Waste Services, Cemeteries, the Weeds team and the Ranger. Ensuring all functions are completing daily tasks.
  • To lead the Biosecurity team in the management and control of priority weeds on council controlled, public and private land as required, and ensuring that the objectives of the council’s Weed Activity Program, regional strategic weed management plan and council’s policies are met.
  • Provide support to the Environmental Department Leader to deliver department services.

To be considered for this role you will:

  • Cert IV in Conservation and Land Management (Weeds focus)
  • Chemcert chemical user accreditation.
  • Construction Induction Certification (White Card).
  • Compliance and regulatory training – Biodiversity Act 2015 and regulations
  • Current Class C driver’s licence
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role
  • Sound working knowledge of the Biosecurity Act, Local Government Act, Pesticides Act, and associated regulations
  • Training in the issue of Penalty Infringement Notices (SEINS).
  • Demonstrated experience in identification and control of invasive and other environmental weeds.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and GIS mapping and reporting systems.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including report writing
  • Ability to negotiate successful outcomes in difficult situations
  • Working knowledge of Work Health & Safety, relevant legislation and the Privacy Act.

This position is graded 9-10 ($1421.50 - $1656.90) gross per week
