He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Local boards make local decisions on behalf of their communities, they provide leadership and engage with the public on a broad range of council-wide issues. Auckland Council's shared governance structure reflects that both local boards and the Governing Body of the Auckland Council, play important decision-making roles spanning across all local government services and activities.

 

The Senior Local Board Advisor role is at the centre of supporting the Waitematā Local Board, providing governance leadership and advice and supporting effective decision-making along with the development of work programmes that deliver on local community aspirations.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You will need to be a politically savvy strategic thinker, who can problem solve and provide impeccable policy and strategy advice to support the local board in their decision-making. Having initiative and an enthusiasm to work closely with the local board and other council teams to help address issues and aspirations of local communities, is at the heart of this role.

 

To do justice to this position, you will need to have a strong governance background along with extensive experience in writing, managing multiple items on the go, financial acumen, and be able to demonstrate how you can effectively coach, influence and contribute across small teams.

In return, you will be immersed in a team of governance experts with a thirst for enabling the local board to address the needs of the Waitematā Local Board area. This role will build upon and further develop your governance expertise and exposure as a senior advisor of local decision-makers. We offer flexible working arrangements and the opportunity to work remotely up to two days a week.
