The City of Ballarat’s Youth Services business unit believes in the vision, voices and creativity of young people and offers an exciting and innovative range of programs for young people aged 12 -25. These programs and initiatives are delivered through a ‘Positive Youth Development’ Framework (PYD) and are designed to upskill, engage, inspire and provide new opportunities to develop personal skills and interests for young people while creating change in the Ballarat community.

Youth Services currently have multiple opportunities available for energetic, creative and suitably qualified people to join the team as Youth Development Officers.

Youth Development Officer x 2

  • 1 x Permanent, Full Time, 40 hours per week with monthly RDO
  • 1 x Permanent, Part Time, 26 hours per week
  • Band 5 salary range between $34.70 to $39.61 per hour, plus 10% superannuation

These roles will utilise a positive youth development model to the develop and deliver a diverse range of programs, events and initiatives within the community. You will be some who is passionate about working with young people to achieve their goals and be engaged as members of their local community.

Engage! Youth Development Officer

  • Temporary, maximum term contract until December 2024
  • Part Time, 20 hours per week
  • Band 5 salary range between $34.70 to $39.61 per hour, plus 10% superannuation

The role will utilise a youth led participation model to lead the engagement and provide young people access to programs and events that focus on improving skills, career pathways and community engagement. These initiatives will be delivered as part of initiatives associated with the State Government funded Engage! program until December 2024.You will be someone who is passionate about working with young people to focus on improving skills, career pathways and community engagement.

FReeZA Youth Development Officer

  • Temporary, maximum term contract until December 2024
  • Part Time, 12 Hours per week
  • Band 5 salary range between $34.70 to $39.61 per hour, plus 10% superannuation

The role will utilise a youth led participation model to lead the engagement of young people in the planning and delivery of community music, cultural and recreation events associated with the State Government funded FReeZA program until December 2024.  You will be some who is passionate about working with young people and have interest and experience in leading the planning and delivery of music, cultural and recreational events.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Certificate IV in Youth Work, Community Development, Social Work, or experience in the Youth Development and Events Management sector.
  • Well-developed written and verbal skills, including program planning, evaluation, budgeting, and report writing.
  • Ability to support the coordination and facilitation of youth events, groups, training and programs within deadlines and support young people to participate in this process.
  • Ability to work effectively with team members and other stakeholders, including developing and facilitating networks of both young people and agency representatives.
  • An understanding of the role of Local Government in the provision of services to young people as well as knowledge of youth issues and the range of services available to young people.
  • Demonstrated ability to champion, model and promote the corporate values.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues relevant to work activities and work area including an understanding and commitment to the Child Safe Standards, and Code of Ethical Practice for the Victorian Youth Sector.
