The Opportunity

Due to an upcoming period of maternity leave, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Health and Wellbeing Planner to join our collaborative and professional team. Reporting to the Coordinator Community Infrastructure and Social Planning, you will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of health and wellbeing policies and projects that contribute to improved community health and wellbeing within the City of Maribyrnong. This includes leading the development and evaluation of the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan (incorporated into the Council Plan 2021-2025).

Please note this is a maternity leave replacement position and therefore, is offered on a temporary full time basis for a fixed term period of 12 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate within an integrated planning framework which provides a guide for considering the social implications of Council's decisions, operations, services and the urban development of the municipality.
  • Work with Council and community to identify and analyse community needs and issues.
  • Lead policy and strategy development to guide the planning process.
  • Develop and manage projects associated with key areas of health and social planning and policy.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to progress key policies and projects.
  • Lead advocacy to highlight health and wellbeing and inequality issues in the municipality.
  • Lead specific health and social planning projects in consultation with the Coordinator Community Infrastructure and Social Planning.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • A tertiary or postgraduate qualification in social sciences, public health planning and policy, public policy or a related discipline, with several years' relevant experience working in a similar role, or lesser formal qualifications with extensive health and wellbeing planning experience. Experience in local government is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating a broad range of health and social policies and projects, preferably in a local government setting. This includes experience in the areas of municipal public health and wellbeing planning, alcohol and other drugs, health and active lifestyles and gender equality.
  • Well developed written and oral communications skills including ability to prepare reports, profiles and briefings, and undertake presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake research, analyse, and present demographic and health data for policy and project development, implementation and advocacy.
