Who we are

The Victoria Daly Regional Council originated as part of the Local Government reforms in the Northern Territory.

Our vision is to be a leader within the Australian Local Government and develop a broad range of strategies that will help shape our vision for the region through excellent service delivery and community engagement. We also aim to build one of Australia’s most sustainable, vibrant, and diverse regions.

To match our expansion and growth, we are looking for an Operations Manager to join our Timber Creek Ward, supervising several Council projects and initiatives to enhance and support our community.

Join a vibrant and energetic organisation

As part of the operations team, you will be responsible for Local Government services, operations, and employees in the Timber Creek Ward. This includes Administration, Parks & Gardens, Waste Management, Aerodrome, Sports and Recreation and Community Broadcasting.

This role is highly varied and each day will look different. You will spend some of your time in our Timber Creek offices, taking meetings with community members, and some of your time visiting services in town or visiting surrounding communities.

Core duties:

  • Day-to-day operations management and planning: Work with the operations team to deliver all Local Government services, programs, and projects in the Timber Creek Ward.
  • Reporting and compliance: Work with the Grants Coordinator and Director Council Operations to ensure compliance with funding agreements and contracts.
  • Organisational administration: Plan, manage and monitor the budget for all operations, ensuring no overspend.
  • Asset management: Organise, manage, and supervise all repairs for Council assets with the assistance of the Technical Services staff as required.

What you will bring to the team

To be successful as Timber Creek's new Council Operations Manager, you will be a dedicated individual with a relevant Management qualification. You will also have proven experience and skills leading various departments and programs and developing staff from a range of skill levels and diverse cultural backgrounds. Previous knowledge and a strong understanding of business and financial planning principles are also essential.

Although not essential, experience working in a remote setting is highly desirable, enabling you to work effectively within indigenous communities and understand the unique challenges of living and working in remote Australia.

In this role, you will be working with various departments and a wide range of stakeholders to ensure the Council’s operations and asset management is run smoothly and following Council’s processes and procedures. As such, you will be a strong communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills and can connect with staff and community members effectively.

Moreover, you will have strategic decision-making skills and be analytical and innovative in your approach to solving complex problems.

Most importantly, you will be adaptable, approachable, and excited about continuously improving the services of a friendly and welcoming community.

Please Note: A current Driver's Licence, present Working with Children's card, and a criminal history check will be required before commencing in this role. You are also required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Benefits on offer

You will receive a competitive salary of circa $85,918 – $91,039 plus super, remote area assistance and relocation assistance of up to $5,000 to support you in moving to this beautiful part of the country! You will also have access to subsidised accommodation and a vehicle that you can use both for work and privately.

Situated on the doorstep of Gregory National Park, this friendly Northern Territory town features several attractions that preserve its rich pastoral and exploration heritage. Here you'll find thriving Aboriginal cultures offering millennia of spiritual tradition.
