Internal Communications Officer

City of Parramatta Council is currently looking for an Internal Communications Officer to deliver high quality internal communications campaigns for the organisation. Reporting to the Internal Communications Advisor in the Corporate Affairs team, the role will develop key messages, deliver campaigns, manage intranet content and support the implementation of the Internal Communications Strategy to ensure staff remain informed and engaged.

About the Role

This position is responsible for contributing to the development of City of Parramatta Council’s internal communications program and activities.

On a daily basis you will:

  • Manage the creation and implementation of internal communications plans to improve the effectiveness of communications with internal stakeholders.
  • Create and coordinate the dissemination of key internal messages to ensure their links with Council’s strategic and corporate direction.
  • Draft high quality written materials
  • Provide support to the Internal Communications Advisor
  • Support content and messaging via the intranet as a key internal communications channel

About the Person

The successful candidate should have previous experience in internal communications for large organisations. It would be preferred, but not essential, for applicants to have previous government experience. The candidate should also have:

  • 5+ years’ experience in developing and implementing effective internal communications strategies and activities, including experience with digital channels in a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Degree qualification in communications, journalism, marketing or public relations (or another relevant discipline), or another appropriate qualification combined with relevant communications experience.
  • Outstanding ability to communicate, negotiate, build relationships and influence others with an engaging approach and technique.
  • Superior writing and proof-reading skills, including the ability to write across multiple channels, with extensive experience in preparing communications content, articles, and presentations.
  • Experience in using and managing a variety of digital systems including intranets.
