About the role  

This role sits in the Smart City and Innovation team as part of the Customer & Business Transformation division which is focused on delivering value to our customers through partnering with the business to achieve great performance outcomes.  

The role will lead a high performing team, drive the strategy and manage partnership to create meaningful and sustainable change through data, smart technology, and innovation with a focus on strategic planning, design thinking and innovation methods.  

The role will establish and lead the newly formed Living Lab, which is designed to test, trial and experiment with emerging technology and innovation with the community. Shape and lead experiments within the Living Lab with a partner network that solves challenges associated with the circular economy, digital equity, internet of things, artificial intelligence and new service models. 

 Responsibilities of this role include 

  • Lead strategy and experimentation for projects and processes that test and trial smart technology, data, and service innovation with partners and the community.  

  • Strategically manage the innovation pipeline of initiatives and identify emerging innovation opportunities that build employee capability, create new partnerships and realise community benefits. 

  • Develop and execute the methodology for testing, trialling and experimenting with new solutions in community and Council spaces using design thinking and systems thinking methodologies.  

  • Manage the experimentation evaluation framework to ensure that innovation solutions are solving community problems and adding tangible benefit to the City and Council.  

  • Lead and facilitate co-design sessions, events/pitch festivals with internal teams and external partners to showcase innovation and create new partnership opportunities.  

About you  

  • Qualifications in business, innovation, Human Centered Design, Information Technology or significant experience in an innovation role. 

  • Demonstrated experience as a high performing people leader and/or partnership manager working in complex environments. 

  • Experience working in innovation ecosystems and building outcome driven partnerships. 

  • Very strong strategic communications, engagement, and co-design skills with experience in analytics and reporting.  

  • Experience in a Living Lab or Incubator that utilises emerging technology is highly desired. 

  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including: National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check
