Waste Minimisation Officer


About the position:

The Waste Minimisation Officer will work collaboratively with Waste Recovery and Engagement team to support the development and delivery of Waste Minimisation Education Action Plan addressing the key waste and resource recovery issues within the City of Greater Geraldton.

This position is offered as a full time two (2) year fixed term contract.

Key accountabilities:

  • Work collaboratively with City’s Waste and Communications Teams to develop and deliver information and promotional material related to community waste minimisation and behaviour change programs, promotions and other activities in accordance with the City’s Waste Education Action Plan.
  • Develop evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of waste education programs and promotions.
  • Identify opportunities to engage with the community on waste and resource recovery themes.
  • Research current and emerging waste management practices and obstacles to waste reduction relevant to the organisation and the community.
  • Provide accurate and relevant information in response to enquiries from customers and other stakeholders.

Position requirements:

The successful applicant will ideally have a degree in environmental studies, community engagement or related field and comprehensive understanding of effective community engagement and behaviour change techniques. Additionally, broad knowledge of current trends in municipal waste management, waste minimisation and resource recovery is highly regarded.

Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.

Remuneration and benefits:

A salary starting from $80,393 per annum or $40.68 per hour will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
