Leading Hand Minor Works


Do you have previous experience in the maintenance and construction of local roads and drainage, or other associated civil construction work experience. Mackay Regional Council has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Civil Construction Leading Hand to join our team, based at the Calen Depot.

You will be responsible of providing daily supervision of a small team to undertake roads and drainage maintenance/construction tasks assigned by a Supervisor; “hands on” tasks include but not limited to formsetting, concreting, signs, bus shelters, headwalls, aprons, drainage pipe laying and other roads/drainage maintenance activities.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction
  • Current QLD Manual Car ‘C’ Class Open Driver’s Licence
  • Current QLD Heavy Rigid Truck ‘HR’ Class Licence
  • Current General Construction Safety ‘White’ Card
  • Current Traffic Management Implementation (TMI)
  • Certificate of Competency to operate road construction plant and/or equipment such as roller, loader, backhoe, grader.
  • Demonstrated experience providing instruction to small work teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in construction/maintenance of roads and drainage infrastructure including Concrete formwork, placement and finishing skills.
  • Experience in the manufacture, repair and installation of roadside signs (desirable)
