Reports to: Fleet & Trades Services Manager

Remuneration: $75,913 +10% superannuation + 6 Weeks Annul Leave with 17.5 leave loading, subsidised housing and relocation assistance 

Status: Full Time, 2 Year Fixed Term

Role:

Provide mechanical diesel fitting to ensure the Tiwi Islands Regional Council Mechanical Workshop in  Wurrumiyanga  are functioning effectively and efficiently in carrying out a high standard of repairs and maintenance to Regional Council’s plant, machinery and equipment and ensuring the full cost-recovery of work undertaken. The position involves hands on trade skills with heavy plant, light vehicles and small engines for Council plant and vehicles as well as community light vehicles.

Travel to other communities on the Tiwi Islands may be required on occasions but the position is based in Wurrumiyanga.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Experience and Qualifications

• Certificate III or above in Automotive Trade specialising in diesel fitting is essential.
• Heavy vehicle licence
• Tradesman Registration
• Minimum recent 2 years post apprenticeship experience in diesel fitting
• A current NT C class driving licence or equivalent is essential.

Desirable

• Relevant experience within a Local Government body with similar complexities to Tiwi Islands Regional Council
• Experience working in remote Aboriginal communities. A certificate in welding and fabrication is highly desirable.
• A certificate in auto electrical and air-conditioning  is highly desirable.
• Examiner qualifications for roadworthy certificate
