If so, we currently have a rare and exciting opportunity to join the Finance team at Canterbury/Bankstown Council as a Coordinator Rates. 

The primary purpose of the Coordinator Rates is to provide strategic direction, leadership and accountability to the Rates team. Further, the Coordinator Rates will be responsible for the coordination and maintenance of Council’s rates systems, rates team, and rates processes in accordance with Council policies and procedures, whilst providing high level customer service to all customers.

This opportunity will be offered on a permanent full-time basis. The salary range for this opportunity commences at $ 111,088 (Grade J, Step 1) + 10% super

Accountabilities:

  • Ensure Council’s rating processes comply with all statutory obligations and that sufficient internal controls are in place and monitored to satisfy any internal or external auditors.
  • Ensure rating system is compliant with relevant accounting standards, Local Government Code of Accounting Practice, the Local Government Act and any associated regulations
  • Ensure Council’s property database and rating information and systems are maintained and accurate.
  • Consider, implement, and respond to any rating related recommendations made by external auditors in the audit management letters.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Finance Unit Plan and complete projects assigned as part of the process.

Essential Criteria: 

  • Member of the NSW Revenue Professionals Society Incorporated
  • Degree in Accounting/Business/Commerce or Significant relevant Local Government finance/rating experience
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence
  • A sound knowledge of NSW Local Government rating requirements.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and work instructions.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing financial reports.
  • Experience in the application of computerised databases, financial accounting systems and Microsoft suite of products, particularly Excel.
  • Proven experience in leading, motivating and managing a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to provide a safe working environment for team members and visitors
  • Demonstrated high level of negotiating and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated effective complaints handling skills and experience. 
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and problem solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability in exercising judgment, control and leadership in difficult and confronting situations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work within specified time requirements.
