Have you just finished year 12 and are looking for an exciting opportunity to commence a career in Local Government whilst gaining a qualification in Engineering and Fabrication? 

An opportunity exists for a talented and motivated individual to be a part of our Trainee, Apprentice and Graduate Program as an Apprentice Welder.

An apprenticeship with The City of Canterbury Bankstown Council is a perfect opportunity for a recent school leaver to gain valuable on-the-job experience whilst obtaining a formal qualification and a fortnightly wage. 

The Role

You will work with our Fleet team at Leslie Street Depot Roselands to gain experience in performing welding and steel fabrication duties to Council’s Fleet vehicles, plant and equipment along with providing welding services to various Council departments which require such maintenance. In addition you will attend TAFE and gain a Cert III qualification in Engineering and Fabrication.

Your duties:

  • Perform routine welding and steel fabrication services to Council’s vehicles, plant, and equipment in accordance with agreed standards;
  • Perform maintenance welding for various Council Departments as required;
  • Perform repairs to other infrastructure as required by various Departments; 
  • Completion of job-sheets and collation of appropriate paperwork; 
  • Ensuring & assisting in maintaining a clean work environment;
  • Position and align parts that need to be welded according to instruction;
  • Create and understand technical drawings;
  • Handle metal, use mechanical and thermal cutting tools and shape finish and weld metal, using workshop machines, hand and power tools

You will have:

  • Completed a Higher School Certificate (Preferred)
  • A current class C driver’s licence and own transport (Preferred)
  • Manual handling skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • The ability to follow instructions
  • Demonstrated ability for attention to detail
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem solving ability
  • Committed to 4 year apprenticeship with Council

The salary range for this opportunity commences at $713.80 Per week (Grade T4) + 10% super
