Communications Advisor

Permanent - Full-time

Do you want to join a growing, busy, supportive and creative team?

Waihōpai Invercargill is New Zealand's southernmost city and the heart and hub of Southland.

We're known for our lush green spaces like Queens Park, our long summer daylight hours and our local legend Burt Munro.

Our city has character, charm and a laidback atmosphere. There's outstanding nature reserves, Ōreti Beach, the Waihōpai River, a lively restaurant scene and a sensible gridded layout with wide streets and a 10-minute drive to work.

We are in a chapter of immense growth, building a vibrant city centre and reinvigorating our culture and spaces, and this is an exciting time to join a Council that is focused on the future of our people and our city.

We are looking for a superstar to join our dynamic communications team.

If you're energetic, experienced, passionate about people and ideas, and keen to work on some big projects, then we'd like to hear from you.

The ideal person for this position will thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy working across many projects at once, is fizzing with new and innovative ideas, and will be ready for anything.

You will need to be a skilled writer who can develop a clever communications plan and write for a wide range of platforms and audiences.

You'll need strong relationship building skills, you'll be organised but flexible and you'll have a passion for understanding our diverse community and staff.

With a background in communications or journalism, knowledge of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, experience with digital and social media, and an understanding of the political environment in Invercargill, you'll be ready to hit the ground running.

This is an opportunity to join an evolving team at a key time of reinvigoration. We're fun, driven and offer a positive and supportive environment for development.

If you are up for a challenge, have the right attitude and the kind of skills we're after, then please apply.

For more information please see the full job description or contact the Invercargill City Council on 03 211 1777.

With the current border and quarantine restrictions in place, successful applicants must be legally entitled to live and work in New Zealand. While all applications will be reviewed, first priority will be given to those applicants who are currently residing in New Zealand.
