About Us

Banana Shire is situated in Central Queensland, Australia located 120 km west of the growing industrial city and port of Gladstone - and an easy drive to the city of Rockhampton.

Our population is approximately 14,291 people spread over 28,577 square kilometres, of which only 27 square kilometres is urbanised. Major industries include Coal Mining, Power Generation, Beef Production, dryland cropping and irrigation such as lucerne and cotton. 

The Council sits in the town of Biloela which is the largest town in the Shire.  Our urban centres and towns include Moura, Taroom, Banana, Baralaba, Dululu, Goovigen, Jambin, Thangool, Theodore, Wowan and Cracow.

About the Role

Council is seeking to appoint a leader to work closely with the CEO and Council’s Executive Management Team.  The appointment will effectively support and drive contemporary operational and business needs across Council.   We are committed to delivering the highest level of corporate services through the development, engagement, motivation and preservation of our human capital – “our workforce”. 

The position will oversee and lead all aspects of contemporary human resource practices and processes.  The position is identified as the “go-to” person for corporate and employee-related operational innovations, professional development and work matters.

As a strategic planner you will be “goals-driven” and support our stakeholders to build on our reputation as an “Employer of Choice”.  Ultimately, the role will contribute to and influence corporate strategic directions in the future.

You will be passionate about people, recognise and value the significant achievements of our outstanding team members and continue to build a culture which respects, trusts and values all of our employees.  Your role as an “innovator and competent decision maker” will enhance the HR space across our organisation. 

You will be an effective HR leader and cultural change manager, and be highly regarded for your proactive strategic planning, operational capabilities and people management skills. 

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Proven and significant experience as an HR/Change Management leader (or similar role)
  • Extensive experience in people management and culture development
  • Sound knowledge of industrial relations and working with unions
  • Demonstrated leadership and corporate operational skills
  • Excellent organisational, written and oral communication competencies.
