Council is seeking applications for a Labourer - Irrigation and Plant Operations within the Parks, Gardens and Cemeteries section. Applications close on Wednesday, 4 August 2021.

The Burdekin is located just 70km south of Townsville, where unspoilt natural beauty meets a thriving rural community right on the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef.  Famous for its abundant sunshine and rich agriculture, the shire’s most important asset is water.  The Burdekin River combined with a massive underground aquifer and the Burdekin Falls Dam make the district drought resistant.

Council is seeking applications to fill the position of Labourer – Parks / Irrigation and Plant Operations in the Parks, Gardens and Cemeteries section.  Working within a small team, the successful applicant will be required to deliver a high standard of care and maintenance in Council parks, gardens, cemeteries, public open spaces and public facilities.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Actively contribute to the design, installation, operation and maintenance of Council’s irrigation systems.
  • Undertake general labouring duties including mowing, planting, watering, mulching, pruning and litter collection and disposal from public areas.
  • Conduct risk assessments as needed to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure the efficient use of materials, equipment, and plant including completion of plant defect reports and routine scheduled maintenance as necessary.
  • Other duties as directed by the Parks Coordinator or Parks Supervisor.

The gross fortnightly wage for this position is $2,212.73 exclusive of applicable allowances and overtime.
