Do you have a passion for exotic birds, conservation and recreation? Are you a "hands on," "can do" type of person? If you are looking for a new challenge then we have the role for you!

Our Parks and Recreation team are looking for a Living Species Officer - Aviary to work in Invercargill's fantastic Aviary and Animal reserves. In this role you will have the opportunity to not only contribute to native bird breeding programmes and the Queens Park Animal reserve, you'll also support the tuatara breeding programme.

If you have a keen interest in native and exotic birds, and are looking for a new challenge, we may have the role for you! We are currently looking for a Living Species Officer - Aviary to work in our modern Queens Park Aviary.

Being responsible for our displays, your attention to detail and creative flair will be put to good use! You will ensure the birds are kept healthy and the surroundings are kept clean and tidy, and also demonstrate your excellent communication skills educating the public about our birds and their history, providing educational tours and talks for our community.

Our successful candidate will have a qualification in bird/animal care, and a full driver's licence. You will have a close affinity with birds demonstrated in your sound knowledge about aviculture and previous experience and confidence in bird handling and care. In this full time position you will work 40 hours per week according to a four-week rotating roster, working one weekend every four.
