About the role:

Our Environment & Health team has an exciting opportunity for 2 suitably experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated environmental health professional to join the team on a permanent full time basis. We are looking for 1 Environmental Health Officer (EHO) and 1 Senior Environmental Health Officer. Both roles will have exposure to all aspects of public and environmental health in both the built and natural environment in maintaining compliance, in accordance with legislation and standards.

Duties include:

  • Investigate, assess, research, document & resolve customer request lodged in regards to environmental & public health issues;
  • Assess & process applications for onsite sewage management systems, operations of caravan parks including structures within caravan parks & installation of solid fuel or oil fuelled heaters;
  • Review referred development applications;
  • Provide specialist assessment of technical reports & documents - acoustic reports, onsite disposal of effluent, contamination and the like;
  • Prepare standards, codes, information & fact sheets on various public health & environmental matters;
  • Act as expert witness in the Land & Environment Court on environmental & public health matters[Senior EHO];
  • Mentor & assist other EHO within the team [Senior EHO];
  • Lead role in the implementation of Council's Food Safety Program [Senior EHO];
  • Develop & promote community health & environmental educational materials & programs.

About you:

To be considered for this role you will need to possess:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health, Environmental Science or similar disciple;
  2. Hold qualifications that enable authorisation by Council under the Local Government Act, Public Health Act, Food Act & Protection of the Environment Operations Act and all relevant legislation;
  3. Experience with technical matters relating to environmental health;
  4. Experience in Local Government and relevant technical expertise relating to Environmental Health[1 year for EHO and 3 years for Senior];
  5. High level attention to detail, ability to analyse problems & find solutions[complex matters attended to by Senior EHO]
  6. Team player contributing to achieving business unit goals/measures;
  7. Current Class C Motor Vehicle Drivers Licence.

Salary will be based on qualifications, expertise, experience & knowledge:

Environmental Health Officer, Salary: Circa/From $83K + Superannuation + Leaseback Vehicle AND

Senior Environmental Health Officer, Salary: Circa/From 98K + Superannuation + Leaseback Vehicle
