The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available to work as part of the Libraries and Learning team in providing excellent service to users of the library and ensuring a connected community that has access to information, learning and leisure in a socially inclusive environment.

The successful applicant will be required to work at any of the five libraries in the municipality, including weekday and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Children and Youth Services Librarian, conduct story time sessions for babies, toddlers and pre-school children in the library;
  • Providing prompt, accurate, courteous and consistent customer service to ensure customers have a positive experience with Council;
  • Library tasks including; placing reservations, joining new members, discussing and assisting with room equipment and event bookings, issuing and returning loans, placing reservations, collecting fees and charges and shelving materials;
  • Assisting customers in the use of equipment and technology such as; computers, photocopiers, wireless internet access, online resources, library apps, eBooks and mobile devices; and,
  • Ensure the presentation of the library is inviting and tidy.

Skills & Experience

In order to be successful for this position, you will ideally possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Satisfactory completion of Year 12 or equivalent is essential
  • Customer service experience essential
  • Exposure to working in public libraries is advantageous
  • Experience in delivering services for children is desirable
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Hold a current and valid Working With Children Check
