About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists within our Development Assessment Team. The Tree and Vegetation Assessment Officer (Arborist) is responsible for the assessment of applications for the management, preservation and protection of trees and vegetation on private land throughout the Local Government Area.


The position will be accountable for upholding Council’s Statutory obligations and Planning Instrument responsibilities for tree and vegetation management and will ensure orderly and practical management of the trees and vegetation throughout the shire.


We seek a passionate and committed individual to join us in the role of Tree and Vegetation Assessment Officer. The position is responsible for the assessment of applications pertaining to the management of trees and vegetation through the assessment of various applications on private land throughout our 2,700 square kilometres Shire area.


About You

You are an ardent advocate for trees and vegetation and are willing to provide a voice of reason for their needs whilst understanding community requirements and legislative provisions.  You will have qualifications and demonstrated experience in arboriculture.


In addition to relevant Tertiary qualifications and demonstrated industry experience, you will actively balance community safety through retention and maintenance of significant trees and vegetation.
You will have demonstrated strong negotiation and problem-solving skills, a commitment to quality customer service to internal and external customers.


You will have experience in using a variety of local government software systems (e.g. Technology One, Microsoft Office (all)) to produce documentation and manage data in accordance with current legislation and in a timely manner.  IT literacy is an essential part of your skill set, enabling you to manage your time effectively and also use online assessment tools with a keen eye for detail when drafting consent documentation and reporting outcomes.
