THE POSITION

Working in Council’s Recreation and Open Spaces Section, this position performs a key role within the team responsible for maintaining parks, sporting fields and reserves.

Reporting to the Manager of Recreation and Open Spaces, you will:

  • Operate tractors with slashers, ride-on lawn mowers and hand mowers to mow parks, sporting fields, other public reserves, council owned facilities and roadsides.
  • Operate whipper snippers and brush cutters to trim and control grass and weeds.
  • Operate trucks, utilities and tractors with trailers to move tools, equipment and materials, rubbish and garden waste.
  • Maintain records relevant to the duties of the position, including timesheets, truck and plant maintenance logs, and site specific WHS records.
  • Direct the flow of traffic at work sites, including the use of stop/go signs to regulate traffic flow and maintain safety.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Specifically, you will have:

Essential

  • Current Class C driver’s licence (car licence)
  • Demonstrated ability to operate trucks, tractors and parks maintenance equipment such as ride-on lawn mowers
  • An understanding of basic mechanical principles and the ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on plant and equipment
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and procedures and accurately complete maintenance records and other routine forms
  • Safe Work NSW WHS General Construction Induction (White Card)

Desirable

  • Current Class MR driver's licence (Medium Rigid)
  • Previous experience and/or appropriate certificates/accreditations in:  traffic control; chainsaw operations; chemical use (chemcert); first aid
