The Role

The Management Accountant is responsible for assisting in the effective and efficient financial management of the Town’s budget development and review, reporting, analysis support and delivering quality, customer focused financial information.

The Management Accountant is a member of the Finance team, a cohesive team that enjoys supporting each other and where necessary helping your fellow team members out as required across the finance function.

Work Related Requirements 

The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol assessment to be considered for the role, as well as possess:

  • Bachelor degree with membership or ability to gain membership of a recognized professional body of accountants
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of financial management report including annual budgets, monthly reports and annual financial statements
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role including budget development and management
  • High level written, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to network with a range of stakeholders
  • High level computer literacy, specifically in the use of excel and financial information system
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to lead and work within an environment of continuous improvement
  • Excellent time management, with a demonstrated ability to deliver on time in a deadline driven environment with an aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail
  • Sound understanding of Australian Accounting Standards
  • Previous Local Government experience
  • National Police Clearance
  • Current ‘C’ class driver’s license
  • Rights to work in Australia.

 

Desirable Experience

  • Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) or CA membership or working towards
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing financial policies and processes
  • Experience using Synergy Soft
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of Local Government Act 1995, Local Government (Financial Management) Regulations 1996, Local Government (Audit Regulations) 1996 and WA Local Government Accounting Manual
  • Demonstrated report writing experience
  • Experience in tax compliance including BAS and FBT returns.
