Land Use Compliance Officer

Bellingen Shire Council located on the Mid North Coast of NSW halfway between Sydney and Brisbane and just south of Coffs Harbour. The region is renowned for its ecological diversity with State Forests and National Parks covering over 53% of the local government area.
We are currently looking for a Land Use Compliance Officer to join our team.
In this role you wilk work within the Planning Services Team and undertake reactive and proactive land use compliance functions on behalf of Council to ensure that our natural and built environment is valued and protected through the upholding, and enforcement of relevant legislation.
Some of the key accountabilities for this role include:
- Respond to and investigate instances of;
- potential environmental pollution
- potential unauthorised land uses and building works
- potential unauthorised vegetation removal
- Undertake pro-active compliance monitoring of key conditions of consent relevant to Development Applications..
- Gather and collect evidence to the necessary legal standards required to defend the issuing of Penalty Infringement Notices, Notices, Orders, or any other legal proceedings instituted by Council, and to represent Council in Court proceedings when required.
- Consistently demonstrate high standards of customer service, integrity, impartiality and professionalism in the conduct of compliance functions.
Essential requirements of this position are:
- Experience in the application and interpretation of the provisions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993 and other relevant NSW planning/environmental legislation.
- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to competently address technical issues.
- Sound written and oral communication skills including demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills, computer literacy and proven ability to prepare reports on compliance matters.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering quality customer service and responsiveness to customer service requests including thorough understanding of and ability to apply customer service techniques.
- Current Class C drivers licence.
