Tasked with ensuring the Central City and its surrounding suburbs are attractive and functional, the Landscape Architecture team here at the Council are responsible for the design of public parks, gardens, playgrounds, residential areas, and public spaces. They also plan the locations of buildings, roads, walkways, flowers, shrubs, and trees within these environments. You will provide design solutions to complex problems at a broad scale as well as at a detailed level for reserves, open space, waterways, streetscapes, building precincts, infrastructure, city environments, waterways and wetlands and other natural areas within the city and Banks Peninsula. To advocate and advise on Landscape planning issues impacting on Council activities and partake in policy development in regards to District Plan provisions. You will have responsibility for a wide range of work that others don't get a chance to and will solve issues that only someone with your knowledge will know how to. As expected for a role like this, you will come with demonstrated experience background in landscape architecture and ideally within a local government environment or similar sized organisation. Your initiative and drive will see you playing a role as a trusted colleague to your Team Leader and the other Landscape Architects in the team. Good people skills are required for this role as while you will collaborate with different in-house functions across our organisation, you will also liaise with those outside of our organisation that are key to project success including other Councils, key stakeholders and the public where you will work together to develop concepts and plans for the local areas. You'll have a high level of initiative and will be able to hit the ground running. Roles like this in Christchurch are often sought but rarely seen.
