He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about making their mark on one of Auckland’s greatest challenges - reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It’s a huge task and we are looking for someone to join our low carbon team to work on a variety of interesting projects and campaigns.
As a Senior Sustainable Living Specialist, you will support the Team Manager and the Low Carbon Living team to develop and deliver services, projects and pilots with sustainability outcomes sought by Council. We need someone who has excellent problem-solving skills, is a team player and can support a variety of projects in a dynamic environment. You don't have to be a climate scientist or climate expert, although you may have had the first-hand experience of the impacts of climate change.
A lot of our work is team-based and delivered in collaboration with key stakeholders in the community, council as well as external partners, so developing productive relationships will help.
He kōrero mōu: About you
You’ll have previous experience in managing or being involved in programmes that involve changing people’s behaviour. You will have an understanding of behavioural change science (preferably relating to environmental outcomes) and an ability to translate technical information to a range of audiences. You will have a good understanding carbon emissions, carbon emission calculations and modelling, or a demonstrable understanding and ability to work closely with numbers in a technical application in another discipline.
You will have above average project management experience and direct experience mentoring or managing others. You’ll be good with systems and processes, and able to implement tools and projects to help the team deliver its goals effectively and efficiently. You’ll also have a relevant qualification (such as Social Science, Behaviour change, Marketing, Environmental Science) and a current NZ Driver’s license or other applicable way of travelling across the region.
Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer
You will be part of one of the best and most highly engaged teams in Council. We have a great culture, so we are looking for a real team player - someone who can get along with anyone, has a positive attitude, a great work ethic and takes initiative. We also embrace flexible working!
Here are some examples of awesome sustainability initiatives out there that we love:
Live Lightly, FutureFit, Love Food Hate Waste, climathon, Healthy Rentals, Compost Collective, Eco-Neighbourhoods, Sustainable Whanau Challenge, Home Energy Audit Toolkit, Auckland Transport bike challenge, Love Your Bike Hub - EcoMatters, Low carbon action plan for Waitematā
If you are excited about the work we do, and the opportunities presented in this role, we encourage you to apply now!
