Senior Environmental Health Officer



An opportunity exists to join Councils Growth and Development team providing environmental health evaluation, assess risk and develop, regulate, enforce and monitor laws and regulations governing public health for both the built and natural environment, in order to promote good human health and environmental practices on a fulltime basis.

Key components of this position will include:

  • Administer relevant legislation, Australian Standards, council policies and procedures to ensure effective management of the built and natural environments.
  • Inform and advise the council and community on health and environmental matters to facilitate efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Provide expert advice, conduct on site assessments and determine the suitability of on-site sewage management and waste water treatment system proposals and issue permits in accordance with Environment Protection Act requirements, Codes of Practice and Australian Standards including ongoing monitoring.
  • Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and review of policies and procedures, process improvements and the establishment and monitoring of key performance indicators to ensure that they are contemporary, efficient and effective.
  • Manage the investigation and resolution of complaints, issue notices and take appropriate legal action where necessary
  • Address internal and external customer enquiries to support efficient service delivery.
  • Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence-based decision-making, enhance capability and optimise capacity.

The successful applicant will be located at either the Tumbarumba or Tumut office, with travel to other locations as required. Prior experience or a Tertiary qualification in Health and Environment or equivalent knowledge and skills gained though experience is essential.

SALARY
Salary will be paid in accordance with the Snowy Valleys Council Salary System at Grade 12 ranging from $3,245.40 to $3,652.80 per fortnight (gross) plus 9.5% superannuation depending on skills, experience and education.
