Sustainability Officer

A unique and exciting opportunity is available to join the Environment and Waste team of Council.  You will be joining Council in a strategic capacity, responsible for driving Council's approach to being a leader and effective community partner, to achieve improved sustainability and environmental outcomes for the Shire.

About the role

  • Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including government agencies, industry, other municipalities and the community to assist in the development and delivery of sustainability programs.
  • Develop and deliver strategies and projects that aim to improve environmental, social and economic outcomes for the shire including reducing greenhouse gas emissions and responding to climate change.
  • Research and prepare funding applications and determine how to best utilise the budget to leverage opportunities and implement prioritised actions.
  • Actively promote best practice sustainability activities through the organisation and the shire by educating and disseminating advice and information.
  • Build awareness and capacity within the community on topics such as emissions literacy, climate change mitigation and adaptation activities, localised action and community leadership.

About you

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders including community members and groups, external providers and Council staff to effectively engage on sustainability or environmental issues.
  • Clearly convey expert advice and information and be adaptable to who your audience is.
  • Proactively educate and impart your experiences and knowledge to the community and other Council staff to enhance sustainability outcomes.
  • High level written communication skills to prepare Council Reports, draft polices and strategic documents for community comment and Councillor endorsement.
