Purpose of the role

The City Life directorate delivers personalised and public services to enhance community life, including family, aged, leisure and cultural services.

The role is responsible for efficiently and effectively assessing and issuing construction certificates, occupation certificates, complying development certificates, building certificates and applications of a similar nature in accordance with the requirements of the relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Undertake inspections involving all classes of buildings, ensuring that all construction work, are carried out in accordance with regulatory obligations and mitigates risk to Council.
  • Provide advice on DA referrals to ensure compliance with relevant building legislation.
  • Receive and investigate customer requests, including enforcement, relating to building works and other non- compliance issues relating to complying development, construction, and occupation certificates where Council is the Principal Certifying Authority.
  • Maintain proper records in accordance with Councils procedures/policies and legislation and provide evidence, where required, in Court proceedings.
  • Assess and determine routine development applications as required to assist the Development Services business unit.

Essential Requirements

  • Completed a tertiary qualification in Building Surveying or a related field.
  • Minimum accreditation of a Building Surveyor – restricted  (all classes of building) under the NSW Fair Trading Accreditation Scheme (A2 qualification)
  • Demonstrate the ability to interpret and apply legislation, and building regulations in NSW.
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
