Purpose of the role

The City Futures directorate focuses on ensuring sustainable and responsible planning and development for all aspects of our City.

We currently have an opportunity in our Strategic Planning Business Unit for 3 Senior Urban Planners (2 permanent full time positions and 1 temporary full time position for 12 months), working as an integral member of the Strategic Planning Team.

Reporting to the Coordinator Statutory Planning, this role is responsible for managing the delivery of a range of activities in relation to planning legislation and instruments, proposals and strategic planning.  You will provide management and coordination of a range of project related activities to support the Business Unit achieving Council objectives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage specific activities to ensure complex projects are achieved within agreed scope.
  • Provide advice and support to the Business Unit across a wide range of planning legislation, strategic planning and compliance issues, and complex complaints and planning proposals.
  • Develop, implement and review land use plans and strategies, planning proposals and statutory instruments to inform decision making in line with contemporary best practice standards and legislative requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications and experience in a relevant field.
