The Opportunity

The City Places Department has an exciting vacancy for an appropriately qualified and suitably experienced Urban Planner (Fast Track) to join the team. Reporting to the Coordinator City Planning, this position will manage a range of administrative and statutory planning work, in accordance with the Department's Business Plan, annual work plans, statutory and Council requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality, accurate, technical and general urban planning advice;
  • Provide prompt and efficient administrative support to the City Planning section;
  • Professionally respond to City Planning customer service inquiries;
  • Assess and process planning applications, including VicSmart and minor Subdivision;
  • Facilitate quality developments that meet Council's outcome driven policy objectives; and
  • Prepare reports and recommendations on applications and when required prepare submissions and present at the Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal.

About You

To be considered for this role you will have the following:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in town planning and knowledge of Victorian Planning legislation;
  • Some experience in a planning role, with local government, private sector or other relevant industry experience (highly desirable);
  • Proficient administrative capability;
  • Highly developed written and verbal skills with the ability to write concise reports; and
  • Well developed customer service ethic and strong commitment to improving service delivery.
