Community Engagement Officer



  • Able to work from Home

Central Darling Shire Council is seeking to appoint a suitably experienced and qualified Community Engagement Officer to join the organisation. The Community Engagement Officer is required to develop and implement community engagement activities such as surveys, focus groups, workshops and interactive activities to promote constructive relationships with the local community, businesses, resident groups and individuals. The position also works with other Council departments to ensure they implement relevant engagement processes consistent with Councils values and strategy. This role can be done from home and to be successful in the role you must meet the following selection criteria:


Essential Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in developing Community Engagement, Education and Communication plans and delivering community engagement activities
  • Demonstrated experience in Advertising and the Media Industry
  • Sound understanding how to use different platforms of social media and the legalities in using them
  • Sound understanding of data gathering methodologies and experience in data analysis and reporting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to produce and edit written material of a high standard without supervision
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of expectations including consultation with stakeholders to ensure best possible fit between Council and community requirements and project outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in dealing with sensitive, confidential and sometimes controversial information
  • Demonstrated high-level organisation skills, including ability to set work priorities and meet predetermined deadlines and commitments with limited supervision
  • Ability to anticipate workflow and employ innovative responses to high workloads and complex issues
  • Flexibility in coping with changing work requirements and practices
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to issues which are, at times, of a sensitive nature
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive, collaborative and service-oriented relationships
  • Strong commitment to delivering quality customer service
  • Experience in facilitation and negotiation with a range of stakeholders
  • Current Drivers Licence

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Technical competence and experience using TRIM, PULSE and Practical
  • Experience in event coordination and administration
  • Flexibility to work outside of, and in addition to, ‘normal hours’ of work
