Community Connections Librarian



We are currently looking for a positive people person with a strong focus on the community to join our Customer Experience team at Invercargill City Libraries as a Community Connections Librarian.

The Community Connections Librarian is responsible for researching, planning and implementing events and programmes aimed at the needs of our community. These events and programmes will both support the needs of our community through the provision of in-library and out of library services but also build strong partnerships with our diverse community. You will be passionate about the Library and our services, seeking opportunities to showcase what we do for the community with the aim of increasing awareness and usage of the many services we offer.


Your excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with people from all walks of life will be put to good use developing strong ties throughout the community, with the focus of this role being with Tangata Whenua, Pasifika, Migrants and community service groups.


A library qualification or relevant tertiary qualification is essential in this role, and being technologically savvy you'll recognise the power of digital technology. An understanding of Te Reo and Tikanga Maori, including the principles Te Tiriti o Waitangi, is also essential for this position.


To succeed in this role your positive energy, enthusiasm and outstanding people skills will be supported by:

  • Proven customer experience skills;
  • A sensitivity to, and awareness of, the broad range of individuals, social, cultural and ethnic groups within the community who are served by the Library;
  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills, including experience in facilitation and/or public speaking; and
  • Familiarity with a range of digital tools, social media and is generally confident with technology.
