An opportunity exists for a talented and motivated individual to be a part of our Trainee, Apprentice and Graduate Program as a Graduate Building Surveyor.
You will be responsible for providing advice and information to Council and the community on building related matters, and to effectively and promptly respond to all enquiries related to building certification, assessments and building compliance.

Your duties in this role will include:

• Undertake certification, development assessment and building compliance tasks in accordance with the relevant legislation and Council’s adopted policies and procedures.
• Undertake mandatory building inspections and site inspections in relation to development assessment and compliance investigations.
• Responding to enquiries from members of the public in relation to certification and building compliance matters.
• Prepare correspondence, reports and memorandums in relation to development, building inspection reports, building compliance and other matters.
• Prepare statement of evidence and attend the Land and Environment Court as an expert witness as required.
• Coordinate comments from other areas, both inside and outside Council, relating to development, certification, building compliance and other matters.
• Meet relevant timeframes nominated by Council.
• Investigate complaints in regards to unlawful building work, non-compliance with development consents and other building compliance matters and taking relevant enforcement action in accordance with legislative requirements.
• Assist Principal Certifiers with enforcement action as necessary and
• Addressing complaints made against Principal Certifiers to the relevant displinary body

To be considered for this role you will possess the following:

• Completed or currently undertaking studies related to building surveying or certification
• Demonstrated interest in gaining technical knowledge and experience related to relevant Acts and other statutory controls applicable to certification, the role of a Principal Certifier and investigation of unlawful development.
• Demonstrated interest in gaining experience in the assessment of construction certificate applications and complying development applications.
• Demonstrated interest in learning procedures related to the undertaking of mandatory or critical stage building inspections and inspections relevant to the investigation of unauthorised building works.
• Demonstrated interest in gaining knowledge of building certification matters and the responsibilities of the Principal Certifier (PC).
• Class C Drivers Licence
