Lead Planning Compliance

• Band 8: $110,365 to $114,546 plus 9.5% Super

• Permanent Full time

• St Kilda or during COVID-19 Pandemic, with ELT/DHHS direction, this role is able to work from home and is predominantly based online.

About the Organisation 

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from planning, childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more.  

About the Role

This position reports to the Manager Safety & Amenity. In this important leadership role, you will be responsible for the management of our busy Planning Compliance unit.  To be successful in this position you will demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, extensive planning compliance knowledge or in a related regulatory field, and working effectively across the organisation, particularly Planning and Building services.  You should be highly regarded for your “can do” attitude and will need high level decision making and communication skills.

This role also requires continued leadership and support several ongoing initiatives including the Customer Transformation program, OH&S, team culture and performance.

Skills and Experience 

• Relevant tertiary qualification and/or at least five years’ experience leading a planning or regulatory team, preferably in a Local Government environment

• An advanced understanding and working knowledge of Town Planning and related legislation, the planning framework and planning principles.

• High level problem solving, investigative and analytical skills, and a track record in developing solutions to planning enforcement issues in a complex operating                           environment.  

• Demonstrated excellent technical knowledge of planning legislation and law combined with strong experience in law enforcement actions and procedures in a local                     government context.

• Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating teams, fostering a positive workplace culture, and developing people. 

• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with conflict, complaints and enquiries from a range of stakeholders, ensuring Council is represented professionally at all times.
