About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join Council’s Environmental Services Section. The purpose of this role is to supervise the running of the Wollondilly Environmental Resource Centre and the Wollondilly Community Nursery. The role will also involve promoting environmental awareness and delivering environmental and community based projects within Wollondilly Shire.

Salary and Conditions

  • Permanent Part-Time position, 21 hours per week (Tuesday - Thursday)
  • Salary from $37.31 per hour, commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful applicant

Selection Criteria

Essential Requirements

Essential Experience and Minimum Qualifications

  • Cert III or Cert IV (preferred) in horticulture or bush regeneration.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience including volunteers and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in nursery management, plant propagation, plant identification, bush regeneration, educational workshops and events.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local ecological communities including the endangered Cumberland Plain Woodland.

  • Good communication skills including writing and public speaking.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, while also showing a high level initiative, ability to work unsupervised and manage volunteers.

Customer Service

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to Council staff, nursery customers, community and stakeholders.

Level of Planning, Problem Solving and Budget

  • Schedule and implement programs including nursery maintenance, propagation, education and events, seed collection and sustainable garden food production.
  • Preparing cost estimates and quotes for general works and projects.
  • Preparation of project proposals based on community needs and funding opportunities.

Desirable Requirements

  • Current Drivers Licence.
