The Opportunity

Due to an internal secondment, our Finance Department has an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced Payroll Officer to join the team. Reporting to the Coordinator Payroll, this role will provide an efficient and effective Payroll service to all employees in accordance with relevant Awards, Statutory requirements and Council's Enterprise Agreement, policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process timesheets, variations, and input data for the fortnightly payroll;
  • Prepare routine correspondence, reports and statistics, as required;
  • Provide high quality customer service to all staff, ensuring accurate and timely advice is given on payroll matters;
  • Contribute to the improvement and development of systems and procedures to increase the efficiency of the payroll;
  • Update and maintain payroll files, databases and spreadsheets on a regular basis, such as the Payroll intranet page, salary register and other payroll documents;
  • Regularly liaise with the People and Capability Department to provide payroll guidance, support and advice.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • Previous demonstrable experience working as a Payroll Officer, particularly in preparing and processing timesheets, variations and data entry;
  • Substantial experience working with a computerised payroll system, preferably Authority Payroll system;
  • Proven experience working with and interpreting relevant employment Awards, Enterprise Agreements and statutory / legislative requirements;
  • Proficient computer skills working with relevant software packages, including Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • No relevant criminal record found in a police check.
