Corporate Planner

It's an exciting time to be in Invercargill and a privilege to work in this region.

You can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and endless recreational activities that Invercargill has to offer with Central Otago, Fiordland and the Catlins on our doorstep. As New Zealand's southernmost city we proudly encourage a good work-life balance and with direct flights to Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington a weekend getaway is also within easy reach.

Our prosperous southern city is undergoing the biggest resurgence in its 166-year history. Invercargill's reputation for being family-friendly is well deserved, with affordable housing, great schools, and amazing facilities.

As part of the recently formed Strategy and Engagement Group, we have created a new integrated, engagement focussed Strategy and Policy team.

As the Corporate Planner, you'll manage the development, review and monitoring of our key Council corporate documents which include the Long Term Plan, Annual Plan and Annual Report, amongst others. Reporting to Manager - Strategy and Policy, you'll work collaboratively with other team members to facilitate community engagement on Council-wide strategies, policies and corporate documents.

You'll have demonstrated skills in high-level project management, including development and implementation of plans and processes within agreed timelines and budgets.

This is an opportunity to help reach Council's strategic objectives at a time of transformation and development in the city. Your exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, will showcase your ability to liaise at all levels and across a wide audience.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or substantial experience in corporate planning or another related field (ie policy, strategic planning, law, project management and/or communications)
  • A good understanding of Local Government processes, functions and legislation
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills, particularly for report writing
  • Proven ability to build relationships and credibility with a wide stakeholder group
  • Proven ability to coordinate and collate input from various sources, and the ability to synthesise complex technical information into ‘easy read' content
  • Demonstrated high-level project management skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work

If you want to be part of this proactive and motivated new team, and you're looking for an opportunity where you will not only contribute to the improvement of our region but also make a real-life difference to the community, then apply today.

At Invercargill City Council we pride ourselves on our values - positivity, respect, responsibility and above and beyond. Finding the right fit for our team is really important to us and we work hard to provide an environment reflective of these values.
