The Planning Officer will provide an efficient and effective customer focused statutory planning service to the community that will encourage the sustainable growth of South Gippsland Shire Council. By ensuring that planning permits and subdivision applications are responded to within timeframes and by contributing to the implementation of Councils strategic planning framework you will improve South Gippsland’s appeal as a desirable place to live, invest and do business.

Reporting to the Coordinator Statutory Planning, this role will see you responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Assessing a range of complex planning applications;
  • Providing professional advice to Council's ratepayers and developers; and
  • Striving for innovation and continuous improvement in our workplace and excellence in customer service.

Council is willing to invest the time to empower and the right person to become a Planning Professional.  In return, the team is looking for someone with who is eager to learn, is positive and an exemplary team player. 

ABOUT YOU

To be successful, you will have:

  • A Town planning degree or similar; or currently study
  • Relevant experience in planning, assessing complex development applications and preparing and presenting professional reports;
  • Knowledge of relevant planning Acts and statutory planning processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing;
  • Well-developed computer skills;
  • Excellent time management skills;
  • A strong customer service focus and commitment.

As Planning Officer you will be enthusiastic and passionate about rural, urban, environmental and tourism and economic development issues in South Gippsland and be will be willing to learn and expand your knowledge about all things planning.
