Rural City of Wangaratta seeks an enthusiastic, suitably qualified and experienced arborist to be the Senior Arborist with our Tree Crew, reporting to the Tree Crew Supervisor.  The municipality maintains a large stock of trees of diverse age, size and species, in urban, suburban and rural areas. 
The person we are seeking will be enthusiastic about trees, have appropriate experience of tree management works, from planting, formative pruning and establishing newly planted trees, to the full range of tree inspection, assessment, maintenance, pruning and removal works.  He/she will have experience in the operation of a range of mechanical plant and equipment including wood chipper, elevated work platform and pneumatic saws and have recognised arboriculture climbing skills.

The successful applicant will require a minimum Certificate III in Arboriculture along with a range of relevant arboriculture certificates and qualifications. A strong commitment to team work and a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and safely as part of a team is essential. A Senior First Aid Certificate (level 2) and current driver licence endorsed medium rigid is also required.


An understanding and working knowledge of the relevant Australian standards, the regulations regarding native vegetation and tree works, and envelope pruning of rural roads will be essential. The successful person will be capable of inspecting trees, assessing works required and organising and implementing appropriate actions with the team, including filling in for the Tree Crew Supervisor when he is unavailable.  Excellent communication skills and an ability to think clearly and show good judgement will be vital in this position.  The right person will join a small but dedicated team that aims to constantly improve the quality and diversity of the municipality’s tree stock.
