The Opportunity

Our Leisure, Health and Wellbeing Department has an exciting temporary full time opportunity for a Sport and Recreation Development Officer to join the team. Reporting to the Coordinator Sport and Recreation, this position will be the central point of contact for all general and club enquiries relating to the use of sporting facilities within the municipality. This position will also oversee facilities management, including some minor capital works projects and will manage the administration of r Council processes, databases and sports club tenancy agreements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and monitor strategies in partnership with other sport and recreation providers, to build the capacity of sport and recreation clubs/organisations to increase community sport, recreation participation and increase physical activity amongst Maribyrnong residents;
  • Contribute to research on the changing sporting and recreation expectations and needs of the community, in relation to the provision of sport and recreation facilities, services, programs and other sport and recreation matters within the municipality;
  • Schedule, attend and oversee sporting facility and playing field inspections, identifying risk management issues and develop reports for internal departmental use as required;
  • Monitor adherence to all tenancy requirements by casual, seasonal, leased community sporting clubs, schools and regular sporting group users; and
  • Provide sporting group/club users with advice on club related issues including Council policies, relevant State and Federal Government legislation.


About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in recreation management, sports administration or a similar discipline;
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of sport and recreation services and facilities in a local government setting;
  • Previous experience overseeing the delivery of minor capital works projects;
  • An ability to develop effective working relationships and gain cooperation and assistance from within Council, the community, State Government and other agencies; and
  • A Current Driver's Licence.
