As the Town Aquatic facilities are re-opening and the changes in the industry rapidly evolves in response to the impacts of covid-19, so too do the opportunities for employment and professional development. The Town of Port Hedland (Town) is currently seeking to create a pool of suitably experienced and motivated aquatic professionals in order to deliver exceptional services to the community of Port Hedland.

Applicants will be selected from this pool to undertake one or a number of roles across South Hedland Aquatic Centre, Marquee Park Splash and Play Park and Gratwick Aquatic Centre.

This pool recruitment process will remain active for a period of six months.

What are the main duties?

These roles contribute to the effective and efficient operation of the aquatic facilities and the maintenance of Water Park which may include:

Casual Duty Manager

  • Provide effective supervision of all patrons and ensure relevant Occupational Health and Safety standards are maintained.
  • Contact water chemistry test and plant adjustments to ensure water quality complies with WA Health Department Standards
  • Provide assistance to guests and attend to any emergency or first aid situations
  • Ensure efficient management of the operation and activities of the Aquatic area of the South Hedland Aquatic Centre, Gratwick Aquatic Centre and Marquee Park Splash and Play.

 

Aquatics Education Officer

  • Plan and deliver quality swim lessons in a safe, fun and effective manner.
  • Conduct learn to swim lessons and programs which meet the individual needs of participants
  • Liaise with supervisor other instructors and participants Maintain records related to learn to swim classes / students
  • The Swim Teacher is responsible for providing a safe and informative swimming program to the residents of the Town of Port Hedland.

 

Casual Lifeguard

  • Lifeguard is responsible for supervising pools to provide a safe environment for patrons.
  • Help maintain the presentation and cleanliness of the Centre at the highest possible standard by assisting with the cleaning and routine maintenance of the pools, pool surrounds, toilets and change room areas, plant room, staffroom, grounds and storage areas as directed by the Aquatic Supervisor.
  • Take appropriate action in the event of an emergency or in any circumstances which could endanger the well-being of any
  • Maintain the facility in a safe, clean and presentable condition for all community members to enjoy.

To be successful in the role, you will:

  • Have a positive approach to life and show initiative in seeking out new challenges. A good attitude is prerequisite.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with a high level of motivation and ability to motivate others
  • Experience in local government or a large recreation facility is desirable but not mandatory
  • Hold a current First Aid certificate
  • Current National Police Clearance
  • Ticket and qualifications as per role requirement, please find attached position description for details.

Integrity and pre-employment checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for this position is not a current Town employee.

Applicants will be chosen from the pool based upon their relevant skill-set and the requirements of the Town at that time.
