The Shire of Capel is a local government area in the South West region of Western Australia, taking in the land between the cities of Bunbury and Busselton about 200 kilometres (124 mi) south of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of 557.6 square kilometres (215.3 sq mi), and its seat of government is the town of Capel. The Shire of Capel has 29 km of beach frontage onto Geographe Bay including Forrest, Peppermint Grove, Minninup and Dalyellup beaches. The Shire of Capel is situated in the shores of Geographe Bay approximately 180 kilometres south west of Perth.  The Shire extending from the 27 kilometres of pristine beach fronting onto Geographe Bay to the edge of the Darling Scarp. The Shire has a blend of rural countryside, rolling hills and wide open spaces.  Popular beaches, rich Jarrah forests and the magnificent Tuart forest which is part of the only naturally occurring Tuart forest in the world.
