Director Planning and Environmental Services

Kyogle Council is currently recruiting for the senior staff position of Director Planning and Environmental Services.

The position is a three to five year performance-based Senior Staff Contract with a generous remuneration package at Band 1 - Director Level as set by the NSW Statutory and Other Offices Remuneration Tribunal.

The role is responsible for the management and oversight of planning services, environmental services, building control, regulatory compliance, waste management, tourism and event planning, economic development and community and cultural services.

To be successful the candidate will need to have:

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning, Environmental Health and Building, Business Administration, Economic Development, or Community Services or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in a managerial role in Local Government.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of environmental licensed waste facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in regulation of building matters.
  • Demonstrated experience in development assessment and environmental planning legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and promoting tourism and economic development.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing community services which respond to the needs of the local community.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and developing budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing conflict resolution between stakeholders in a Local Government regulatory environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and communication systems.
  • Experience in preparation and presentation of technical reports and submissions.
  • Ability to deal with a range of customers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Well developed analytical skills.
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of Equal Employment Opportunity and Work Health and Safety and an ability to apply them to work practices.
  • Drivers Licence Class C.
