General Manager

The Launceston municipality is a vibrant, diverse and dynamic place to live, home to 67,000 residents – with a greater urban population of 107,000. Currently experiencing significant commercial growth, the City of Launceston have a number of major strategic projects commencing or in progress, including the intergovernmental City Deal initiative, the University of Tasmania’s northern relocation expansion project, the redevelopment of Launceston’s CBD and the major development of the city’s iconic CH Smith site. Council are currently seeking a highly motivated General Manager to lead staff through this exciting period of growth. 

This high profile role will see you engage across all levels of government, proactively developing and growing partnerships with key stakeholders and seeking to identify new revenue channels for Council. Promoting a culture of accountability, you will ensure the current programme of major developments are delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard. Working closely with Aldermen you will advise and assist them in the development of policies as well as plan, direct and control Council’s day-to-day operations. In doing so, you will build the capability of the team around you; ensuring staff are engaged and taken along on the journey with you. 

As a dynamic, results focused and consultative executive, you will use your leadership and interpersonal skills to relate to and support Aldermen, staff and the community. You are highly regarded for your ability to strategically develop partnerships and engage other tiers of government to identify and deliver on advocacy and commercial opportunities. You could come from a range of backgrounds, however you have a proven track record of handling multiple large scale projects and understand the governance structure and requirements of complex organisations.
