The Victoria Daly Regional Council was formed as part of the Local Government reforms in the Northern Territory. The Council encompasses a large geographical area, which comprises of five Indigenous communities and surrounding outstations (cattle stations). Council Service Centres are located in Kalkarindji, Yarralin, Timber Creek, Pine Creek and Nauiyu. Council’s aim is to strengthen its communities with local people delivering regional service to their own communities; with the skills and knowledge of their own culture, community and people.
The Council Regional Office is located in Katherine. With a population of over 9,200, Katherine is situated 300 km south-east of Darwin in the ‘Top End’, the third largest community in the Northern Territory, sitting against the beautiful Katherine River; a short 30 km distance to the stunning Katherine Gorge, within Nitmiluk National Park, and just 312 km south of Darwin. The Victoria Daly Region borders the Litchfield National Park in the north and extends to the border with Central Desert Regional Council in the south and the Western Australian border to the west. Katherine is a modern thriving regional centre providing a modern air-conditioned shopping centre, hospital, sportsgrounds, parks and gardens as well as a large number of Commonwealth and Territory Government services.
The Victoria Daly Regional Council was formed in 2008 and, in 2014, a section of the region was excised to form the West Daly Regional Council. We are seeking a Chief Executive Officer to help lead and navigate the exciting times ahead. We anticipate you will be equipped with the skills and experience to lead an enthusiastic staff team providing valued services to this broad and dispersed community. You will manage the Council’s strategic and operational business plans, use a transformational leadership style to motivate and inspire, take an active approach to promoting community development and work closely and cooperatively with the Mayor and Councillors to help create a better lifestyle for this vibrant community.
An attractive salary, with a total remuneration package of up to $250,000 pa, is offered and working conditions include six weeks’ annual leave, 11.5% superannuation contribution, unrestricted private use of a motor vehicle, Council house, and relocation expenses.
