We are seeking applications from experienced and skilled people for positions within the DFES Digital Communications Team. Successful applicants will be placed in a pool and as vacancies arise, suitable applicants may be offered these, or similar positions.

  • 2 x Digital Communications Officers (Level 4)
  • 1 x Digital Communications Coordinator (Level 6)


It’s an exciting time at the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES). The successful applicants will play a key role in helping to grow DFES’ use of digital communications to inform and engage the community with emergency warnings, safety and emergency services information.


A core responsibility of these roles includes development and management of DFES’ social media channels. The successful applicants will be required to participate in a 24/7 rotational On-Call roster and additional, periodic weekend work will be required.  The position is primarily based at DFES Emergency Services Complex, Cockburn Central.  Travel to other metropolitan and regional offices will also be required.


The Coordinator role will also have the opportunity to help develop the Digital Communications Team through recruitment and coordination of a team of volunteer virtual Social Media Officers.


Based in DFES’ Media and Corporate Communications Directorate, you will work closely with a team of communications and media professionals as well as engage with key internal stakeholders across DFES to support effective use of digital communications.


DFES seeks dynamic, organised and results focused individuals who can maximise DFES’ use of digital communications in order to better engage with all Western Australians, including those within the fire and emergency services community.

Digital Communications Officer (Level 4):

Digital Communications Coordinator (Level 6):


Tertiary qualification in relevant field (Social Media, Communications, Media or Journalism)



Demonstrated experience to create, develop and implement digital and social media activities.

Proven project management and coordination experience in strategic communications projects and initiatives.

Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with different audiences.

Proven experience in team development and management.

Demonstrated experience working independently, using initiative and judgment in high pressure situations.



Demonstrated experience in emergency communications.

You must be an Australian Citizen or hold permanent residency (proof must be provided with your application) to be eligible for this position.


A condition of employment for new employees of DFES is that a current National Police Certificate (less than 12 months old) is provided prior to commencement
