Located in the Hunter Region of NSW, Dungog Shire is renowned for its forests, mountains and picturesque river villages. Covering an area of 2,248sq/km, the Shire is bordered in the north by the Barrington Tops plateau which forms part of the Great Dividing Range. The Shire has two principal rivers, the Williams in the East and the Paterson to the west with both rivers contributing more than 40 percent of the flow of the Hunter River. The Council is committed to the preservation and protection of the natural environment and cultural heritage and offers a high quality rural lifestyle within just over an hour drive to the coast and the city of Newcastle and an easy 2.5 hour drive to Sydney.

Council is seeking the services of a highly motivated and experienced senior executive for the position of General Manager of the Council. This position requires a person confident in their experience and ability to lead, inspire, motivate and innovate whilst operating in a highly complex council organisation and environment.


To be considered for this role, you will have enjoyed a successful career to date as a senior executive level manager in Local Government with a strong knowledge of the current issues, challenges and opportunities facing rural councils in NSW. You will have a solid track record of achievement as a leader and manager with highly developed political acumen and financial skills essential. The ability to develop and maintain critical stakeholder relationships and negotiate and influence positive outcomes for the community is critical to the success of this role.
