Leading Hand Maintenance

Mackay Regional Council has an opportunity for an experienced Leading Hand to join our Civil Operations team, based at Calen Depot.

We are offering a permanent full-time position with a 9-day fortnight roster (every 2nd weekend is a long weekend!) based out of the Calen Depot. Be home with your family every night and gain the work/life balance and job security you've been searching for!

In this role, you will be responsible for the daily supervision of a small – medium work crew based out of the Mirani Depot. You will be required to plan, organise and coordinate staff and will take a lead role in both health and safety and practical job training. You will provide a high standard of maintenance/construction expertise and you will present a positive image of Council’s workforce through positive client and community interactions.

The successful applicant will have the following knowledge and skills:

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction or at least seven (7) years demonstrated road experience and capability to obtain Certificate III
  • Current QLD ‘C‘ Class Open Drivers Licence
  • Current General Construction Safety White Card
  • Experience in successfully leading, supervising and motivating teams
  • Extensive experience in construction/maintenance of roads and drainage infrastructure
  • Plant Operation Certificates of Competencies e.g. Roller, Loader, Backhoe will be highly regarded
  • Current QLD Heavy Rigid ‘HR’ Class Licence will be highly regarded

  • Annual base salary range from $54,380 - $57,642 plus allowances as applicable
