This role sits within the City Development Team who is focused on the delivery exciting projects such as Re-imagining Campbelltown, new release areas including Bardia, Denham Court, Gilead, Menangle Park, Glenfield and urban renewal projects within existing residential, commercial and industrial areas.

As a Student Town Planner, you will gain experience in project management, customer service, development assessment and strategic planning. Council is experiencing significant change and growth, so the successful candidate will need to be flexible, solutions focused and abreast of current legislation.


About the role: We are currently seeking a Student Town Planner. In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Efficiently and effectively assessing development and associated applications submitted to Council under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, and related legislation
  • Assess and progress planning proposals in accordance with the requirements of relevant legislation and policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental planning studies, planning instruments, development control plans, codes and policies.
  • Reviewing documentation received with the submission new Development Application to determined the adequacy of information provided.
  • Participate in duty town planning services to provide advice regarding development matters.
  • Ability to deal effectively with people at all levels and to represent Council capably to developers, consultants, other government agencies and the general public.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following key skills and attributes:

  • The commencement, or recent completion, of tertiary study in an appropriate and approved course in town planning, urban design, environmental disciplines or equivalent relevant fields.
  • Knowledge of town planning concepts, urban design principles and regulatory frameworks.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
